TEHACHAPI — Desert-dwellers have long enjoyed outings to Tehachapi during apple season. The four seasons climate provides a change of pace and the largest apple orchard offers a variety of apples and, if you’re lucky, even apple pies.
Pulford Appletree Orchard opened for the season earlier this month and will remain open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, through the end of the season. How long is the season? That depends on the weather. Usually apples will be available through October and into November and some years even into December. However, the 2026 season was short. On Oct. 11, Pulford Appletree Orchard closed for the season.
You can check Pulford’s Facebook page to see which of their many varieties are available when you plan your trip and to make sure they’re still open. As for pies, plan to get there early if you want one because they sell out quick.
It’s important to know that Pulford’s is not a u-pick operation. They pick the apples when they’re ready and you can pick from bags and boxes on display. And, also important, bring cash or your checkbook because no payment cards are accepted.
Pulfords is located at 19440 Highline Road, Tehachapi, just southeast of the city. Check their website or call 661-822-5021 for more information.
Another fun apple season event in Tehachapi is the Tehachapi Apple Festival is planned from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, in downtown Tehachapi.
